NFHS Rules

  1. B12 intercepts a forward pass in their EZ and then passes backwards to B23 who muffs the ball so that it goes OOB across the SL behind the GL. The covering official ruled safety.

  2. K 4/6 on K’s 20 YL. K has 10 players on the field with only 6 players on the line of scrimmage. K’s punt is caught by R22 on R’s 45 YL and returned to K’s 40 YL. The LJ flags K for illegal formation – 6 men on the LOS. The options given to the receiving team are - decline the penalty and 1/10 at K’s 40 YL or accepts the penalty, 5 YDS from the previous spot and 4/11 for a possible re-kick.

  3. A 3/12 on A’s 22 YL. End A82 while running a sideline pass route accidentally steps OOB on the A32 YL to avoid a defender, returning inbounds at the A35 YL, A82 continues downfield and catches the pass at A’s 38 YL where he is tackled. The HL threw his/her hat down at the A32YL and then dropped a flag at the A35 YL. After the play was dead, the HL signaled the R illegal participation A82. B accepts the penalty making it A’s ball 3/23 from A’s 11YL.

  4. A 3/12 on A’s 22 YL. End A82 while running a sideline pass route accidentally steps OOB at his A32 YL to avoid a defender, returning inbounds at the A35 YL. A82 continues on and is obviously interfered by B24, while attempting to catch the pass. The HL threw his/her hat down at the A32YL and then dropped a flag at the A35 YL; the BJ threw a flag for the DPI. The 2 officials discussed the play briefly and signaled to wave off the DPI as A82 was no longer eligible due to being penalized for illegal participation. B accepts the penalty making it A’s 3/23 from A’s 11YL.

  5. With 12 seconds left in the 2Q K is punting from their end zone. R21 is in position to catch the kick at K’s 30 YL when the kick in flight hits K42 on the shoulder. The BJ flags K42 for KCI. The RT accepts the option of 15 YDS from the spot of the foul and the awarded FC then chooses to snap with 7 seconds on the game clock. B23 then commits DPI on an incomplete pass in the end zone. The Crew enforces the DPI penalty when A’s head coach asks the LJ if he can now FK for points since there is only 1 second on the game clock. The LJ said it was too late since they have run a play.

  6. K 4/8 from B’s 24 YL, 3 seconds left in the game. K is in scrimmage kick formation for a field goal to tie the game. During the successful field goal the RT is flagged for running into the kicker. The KT chooses to keep the points to tie the game and enforce the penalty from the succeeding spot in OT. The RT HC wanted an untimed down or KO as a result of an accepted penalty on the play in which time expired. He argued his team should have a chance to run the kick back and score to avoid the OT.

  7. B14 intercepts A’s pass in B’s end zone where B14 tries to run the ball out of the end zone but is tackled by A32 prior to the ball leaving the end zone. During the tackle A32 grabbed and twisted B14’s facemask. The Crew ruled the enforcement spot for the foul is the GL since the foul occured in the EZ. Resulting in B’s ball 1/10 at the B 15 YL.

OHSAA Mechanics

  1. After the first OT period the score is still tied. The clock operator put 2:00 on the game clock. The R started the intermission and informed the LOS officials to go to their benches and find out what their respective coaches want to do since there is no longer a coin toss, informing the LJ his coach has the choice of offense/defense or which end of the field.

  2. In the 2nd OT period both teams scored TD’s and kicked a successful Try to force the game to a 3rd OT period. The R told both LOS officials to inform their respective coaches that starting with the 3rd OT period both teams will be required to go for 2 point conversions following any TD’s to assist in breaking the tie.

OHSAA Regulations

  1. The visiting JH team, due to bus issues, showed up at 4:20 for a game scheduled to start at 4:30. The game officials got both HC’s together to negotiate a 4:35 start.
